‘Working on the ad hoc off’
‘Rachmaninoffski’

audio with added tuneage…

For the best part of half of Monday, I couldn’t shake that formal jacket with jeans look. So German. The look, not the timing of Monday’s thoughts. Dummkopf.

Can’t talk now, got an emergency job in Manchester. Wait there… I’ll be back… said the man who wears that look. He’s got the look; she’s got the look (She’s got the look) She’s got the look (She’s got the look) What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue…

But mien brine in krieppenhoff, there’s a look in Manchester that’d make your teeth curl. I retired to rest easy in my loin cloth and ponder curly teeth for the remaining quarter of the day. Dusseldorf.

This is getting us nowhere mien Bic razor von Hasselhoff. Let me tell you about how after taking Cherry for a walk I wash my hands in cold water. Cherry’s a dog by the by, not some old lady I walk appropriated by some community service scheme. Not that I should be on such a scheme, or even walking old ladies called Cherry should be one of the tasks. How many old ladies are there called Cherry anyhoo? Well, there’s Cherry Logan Emerson, an engineer born in 1888 then there’s Cherry Logan Emerson, a chemist born in 1930; two completely different Cherry’s, and neither the mysterious little old lady who needs walking or even my dog come to that, who perhaps now has acquired that longed for missing middle name. How little old ladies waiting to be walked by Mr Big came in the equation is puzzling enough. Let alone how Mr Big strolled into such a scenario. Maybe it’s the big fella outside the house I’m painting who’s been there all day, in the street, under a tree, in the pouring rain. I’m painting a house by the by, not some big fella standing outside it. He’s got the look. Romanoff. He’s probably carrying out good hearty community work in these trying times. Shady dynasty those Romanov’s. But mien steer-off, I digress, for the point being every time I wash my hands in freezing water, yes, it’s freezing water now, I think of that Victorian English Army officer in George Orwell’s Burmese Days, who washes in the yard with ice cold water every day, whatever side of extreme the mercury sits on. Easy as it sounds? But not so easy a task washing in sub-zero. And yes, Burma gets cold. Well, I’m glad we got that cleared up. Washing in cold water day in day out – not easy… Bien crikey grout Flippen Hoff.

Meantime, grrr, in the world of plentiful dumping’s of wind and rain, I had sage and onion stuffing with iceberg lettuce for lunch and I wear lace up flip flops when working inside. I also have one arm bigger than the other, like Vitas Geralitas, it’s from all the brush work you know.. Well, vague is as vague can be isn’t it, what.

It got to about 23 degrees in Vietnam once and we thought it freezing.

Ok, enough of going around the houses, let’s go World News

The Macondo Literature Festival in Nairobi gathers African authors who write in Arabic, English, French, Portuguese and Spanish. Must be confusing. Yvonne A’dhiambo Pwgor who is a big wig, co-founder and award-winning Kenyan author explains, ‘It’s a convergence of people drawn from the continent’s, diverse imagination streams who meet like-minded people for a few days.’ Convergence, must be an author. Kenya is quite the hub for literature these days with the Africa Redefined Indie Book prize, Nairobi Literature Fest and the Nairobi Indie Book Fair. Oh, what tales the dark continent possess. There are goings on there that make China look transparent, whereby in turn China operates within the dark continent opaquely.

European Mobility Week sees ways to inspire cities to improve infrastructure, promote sustainability options and reduce car dependency. In Georgia’s Tbilisi you can explore the metro after dark, in Dortmund they have recreational learning areas for children and Tarta Estonia provide busses with DJ sets. Get on, get on, get on my groovy train… can you get chips with that.

Ukraine is suing Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. Yeah! The World Trade organisation put trade restrictions on Ukraine (mostly grain) when war first broke out. Now everyone’s blaming Russia the ban has been lifted… but not in these countries.

Mandarin in the Middle East is mandatory in secondary schools. Each student must attend two lessons a week for at least one term.

In the 45th session of the World Heritage Committee UNESCO has added 13 more places. From a Viking Fortress in Denmark to Maison Carree in Nimes, France and a prehistoric site called Tell es-Sultan in Jericho, which has kept the Palestinians happy but got the Israeli foreign minister miffed, he labelled it a ‘cynical ploy’.

In the fashion world, fa fa fa fa fashion, LVMH and Kering have teamed up to boost their brands in India. The likes of Cartier, Bulgari, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Gucci, IWC Schaffhausen and Rimowa are to hustle their ply in Jio World Player shopping centre in Mumbai. The business man behind it, Mukash Ambani Industries Ltd will pocket a % of revenue from the outlets. Luxury goods market is growing and proposed to hit £200bn by 2030. India, they scheme, is the next playboy’s playground. I remember in Vietnam, they replaced the oldie woldy quaint world of huddled houses, lanes and Mediterranean red roof tiles in Saigon for glass fronted Louis Vuitton shops and it looked shite, but I suppose it makes someone happy, especially the previous shop keeper who now plays cards all day and gets pissed on snake-filled bottles of rice wine.

tuneage of the week

Ok, do we ponder on the Yanks and 31 invited countries from across the globe to huddle together and somehow control China’s world takeover. The fact that the ‘smaller’ countries currently get no, nor ever likely will have a say in economic or military assistance is neither here nor there. Or the fact that China’s transparently opaque world take over is exactly what the US and previous countries, paved throughout history, is neither here nor there.
