It Is… Pt20

‘And back to me Clive’
‘Keith’
A-top Great Hill the horizon flickered in a late May heat. Glimmers of farm greenhouse roof tops danced like white horses on a far-off ocean.
A gentle warm zephyr blew my 1970’s haircut into a Keith Floyd episode. Perched on that realm of serenity, huevos rancheros bubbled in a clay pot. Soon the whole of Lancashire would be ablaze. As the cameraman concentrated on the charging hooves.
Talking of getting the wind up; I nearly fell out of a 1970’s Zephyr in the 70’s once. Just once. In the 70’s. It was around the 3-day week era, and this particular morning wasn’t on that 3-day schedule, so technically didn’t exist. It was a Furkday. My school cap blew out the window so I opened the door to get it. The rear tyre’s grip loomed ever closer to my outstretched hand, as the cap disappeared on the fading concrete. Next thing I knew I was being hauled by my breeches from my brother back into the back seat with a lurching helping hand from dad who drove us, erm, not sure, could’ve been the barbers… Argh, the 70’s.
Energised by Great Hill’s zeal, and its refurbishedly raw banquet of vigour and quest, I strode back into the village knackered and ate fish – no oil, butter and lemon required. (highly irrelevant but fascinating)
May’s whirling heat continued amidst slurps of vinaigrette and Turkish salad. Janet Kay’s – Silly Games 1979 tune has become an earworm hard to wriggle out of this week. I get it confused with a memory of painting a fence to an old peoples home in Sydenham, South East London, my first job after leaving school and think I’m listening to Althea and Donna’s – Uptown Top Ranking from 1977. But I’m not, it’s Janet, oh Janet.
Gad, the heat mein frugle-burger. Is it Furkday?
Its overcast cast now and I’m sat in my car in a graveyard waiting for my next shift to start.
…but enough fun and games, it’s time for World News…
Brazil’s financial minister has hot trotted off to Russia, India, China and South Africa proffering his cap to rally coin for Argentina. BRICS, the anacronym, is a strange group eh, how did South Africa wind up there? Anyway, Argentina are in their worse depression since 2002. In fact, what’s India doing there? And what have they got to do with Argentina? Tune in next week for more what’s folks.
In other gangs; newly approved Finland into NATO will join Sweden and neighbor Norway in the Arctic Challenge Exercises. That’s military stuff and not star jumps on ice. Numbers: 9 June, 120 aircraft, 2,700 military personnel and 14 countries. Training on the F-35 paramount. Put that in your pipe BRICS. Schmoooking.
Estonia have their first Michelin star for 180d restaurant. The guide, where is Estonia again, the guide enlisted 35 venues on the map, which is more appropriate given Michelin maps are definitive as opposed to restaurant ratings with no real universal criteria.
Ukraine have an app not a map, called Diia. Which stores all your domestic essentials. You can open bank accounts, start businesses, store digital passports and buy a house. Estonia are first in the queue to be given the code, if only they could find it.
UNESCO have recognised Latin America the most dangerous place for journalists to hang out. Thereby creating the Supporting Safe Spaces for Journalists in Conflict. The SSSJC supply legal aid, diplomatic support and safe rooms. 200 journalists have been killed in Latin America over the past decade. Hong Kong and Turkey are next on the list. Still searching for a funny I’m not sure it needs.
South Korea are attracting more tourists thanks to attractive packages to make people more attractive. Medical procedure holidays are expected to garner 700,000 tourists by 2027. In between bits lobbed off or added on, discount packages are available at nearby natural attractions like hot springs resorts to relax. That’s a lot of body waste disappearing somewhere… hmmm, the connotations are bubbling nicely
A NASA funded food for Mars trips has narrowed competition down to 7 companies. One recycles the carbon dioxide in human breath to grow yeast based nutrients, which is beer right. Another bio regeneration programme grows fresh food out of… hang on you can make beer from air!
